Being Prepared: Keeping our Lamps Filled with Oil

The parable of the ten virgins, 5 were wise and 5 were foolish
5 had prepared and were not caught without, 5 did not prepare
(Matthew 25:1-13)
How do we prepare and what exactly are we to do to be ready to meet Jesus?
This is a substantive list of suggestions. Please seek the Lord about how you are to be ready. I cannot possibly have all the answers.

Read His word
Fill your heart mind and soul with truth and the righteousness of His word
Man cannot live by bread alone
His word satisfies because He is the word and knowing it reminds us that we are only here for a short time in the span of eternity

Pray
Get used to relying on Him to work in your life
The more you pray for yourself and others, your country, any situation you see, the more you will see answered prayer and realize that God not only hears you and listens to you but that
He performs miracles on your behalf as you pray according to His will

Fast
This is an unpopular subject.
People prefer to ignore it, especially in America
People don’t like to suffer
they will avoid doing things that produce suffering
Jesus honors fasts that are done unto Him, that are done in secret,
to honor Him and to fast as an act of worship
Fasting also breaks spiritual bonds that cannot be seen
or realized by the natural eye

Get to know Jesus
Spend time with Him
I can’t tell you exactly how to do that
I know this is not taught or explained much by many preachers
getting to know God is huge in your preparation
Listening to Him ourselves is what we all should be doing
as well as learning from others who know the bible well
Be careful under whose teaching you sit
All people are fallible and no human knows everything
if you don’t understand Jesus and His character, His words,
the way He works with people, the intensity of His love and forgiveness,
you’ll be at a great disadvantage
As you read His word, notice His character, how He treats people,
what He teaches them
His relationships were different with all of the prophets, all of the kings,
some of them were close to Him, some despised Him
God has a way of letting people know He is around
Speaking to them, He said, My sheep hear My voice.
if you are seeking Him, He is there
When you spend time with Him, listen. He is always trying to teach us things about Himself, revealing to us who He is
It is not easy to explain. He is able to help you to get to know Him,
ask Him to show you
There is really no formula to knowing God
Each of us are different and we all have our own relationship with God
He created you, He wants to spend time with you

Keep Your sins open before Him
Be in constant communication with Him
about how to keep your heart clean
Remember the commands He has given you: Love the lord your God with all of your heart mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself
Forgive freely as He has forgiven you,
Give to those in need as lending to the lord
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world, if any man love the world, the Love of the Father is not in him
Do not hide your sins from God, thinking you’ll take care of them yourself
Stay ever close to Him and watch for Him
for you know not at what hour your Lord doth come.
