Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates,
waiting at the posts of my doors.
For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.
But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:
all they that hate me love death. Proverbs 8:33-36
Proverbs 8 tells about wisdom all the way through:
For my mouth shall speak truth;
and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. v 7
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate. v 13
By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. v 16
The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before His works of old. v22
I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. v 23
God is filled with wisdom. He created the Earth with wisdom and the Heavens and all things that were created were created with God’s wisdom.
He hath made the earth by His power,
He hath established the world by His wisdom,
and hath stretched out the heavens by His discretion. Jeremiah 10:12
That wisdom can be ours? How can that be? He will share it with us.
He will share it with us… if we ask.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally,
and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5
There was a very wise king named Solomon who desired wisdom.
God gave him much wisdom, but in the end, Solomon spurned the Lord.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom:
a good understanding have all they that do his commandments:
his praise endureth for ever. Psalm 111:10
The lesson is that Solomon separated wisdom from God.
He thought he possessed wisdom, but he somehow lost the fear of God.
We cannot possess any part of God without God.
In other words, we cannot take the gifts, whatever they are, and kick God out.
If we do, we are going to fall just like Solomon fell.
Removing God from Himself is impossible.
When we seek God’s wisdom, it is not a possession we own.
Wisdom belongs to God. We cannot use Him for His wisdom.
Pushing Him aside and ignoring the fact
that wisdom belongs to Him is far from humility.
Charging ahead of God will lead us nowhere good.
Fools despise wisdom.
If a fool asks the Lord for wisdom, he will no longer be a fool.
Yet if that person is puffed up with pride for the wisdom he attains,
he will fall and fall hard.
Wisdom and the fear of the Lord go hand in hand.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer;
they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Proverbs 1:28-30
Wisdom is a glorious part of God. The fear of God will keep us in His wisdom.
And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee,
but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him,
and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, Deuteronomy 10:12
