Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have
entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2 KJV
Remember when the donkey could see the angel, but not Balaam?
And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she fell down under Balaam:
and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam,
What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me:
I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass,
upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day?
was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam,
and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way,
and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head,
and fell flat on his face. Numbers 22:27-31 KJV
There is also the time when Elisha prayed
that the Lord would let his servant see the mighty force of angels with them
in the battle so he could understand God was with them
There is no mention of angels,
but who else would be riding the horses and driving the chariots?
And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
2 Kings 6:17 KJV
We don’t always know when there are angels present
We do know God is always present and if He sends them, they’ll be there
It is the same idea that we need to remember that each time we meet someone, God is watching us, checking our hearts to see if we are loving, kind, speaking the truth, listening to Him, obeying
That comment that we entertain angels unawares reminds us
that we consider how important it is to love our neighbors as ourselves
and to honor our love for God when we are dealing with others
Let us keep on the straight and narrow path that leads us to Jesus the King
As He directs you, help others along the way
If He gives you His compassion, go with it, let it flow
Listen to it and be quick to help others who may either be angels
or be protected by angels that we cannot see or hear
Not just because they are angels or have angels,
but because that is what Jesus hopes we will do
