Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
People get confused between fleshly works and godly works
The Works of God are different from works of the flesh
to obtain heavenly favor or to be righteous in our own sight
The works or deeds that Jesus spoke of is works for the kingdom of God
Works that glorify God, not us, not us in any way shape or form
They only glorify God
The works that Jesus talked of are expected
They are evident because we are a part of Him
They are not works or deeds that we do on our own, for Him,
but rather, that He does through us to accomplish God’s purpose
I am the vine, ye are the branches:
He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
The second a human receives glory
is the same second they become useless for the kingdom,
until their works for God are of pure motives
That is not to say God cannot use anyone for His purpose, He can
He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30
We are not justified by the works of the law,
but by the faith of Jesus Christ
So these works that Jesus speaks of, that He is looking for in us,
are not of the law but of faith and if done by Him through us,
He receives all the glory and He will reward us as He sees fit,
not as we might expect
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law,
but by the faith of Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Jesus Christ,
that we might be justified by the faith of Christ,
and not by the works of the law:
for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16
Many works of God are written of in the Sermon on the Mount:
Be salt
Be light
Love and forgive your enemies
Practice and teach God’s commands
Reconcile with your brother
Turn the other cheek
Rejoice when you are insulted or persecuted
and many more…
You can also find God’s works performed
through the apostles and believers in
The Book of Acts and all throughout the Bible
From the righteous sacrifice that Abel offered the Lord
all the way to refusing the Mark of the Beast in Revelation
Without Him we can do nothing because the flesh profits nothing
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
So any effort toward and for the Kingdom of God
without Jesus’ strength and direction is a fail
He is our source
The Power of His Holy Spirit lives in us and does the works through us
But if the Spirit of Him
who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
He who raised Christ from the dead
will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
