A good cook knows how to salt things
They put just enough in
Not too much, lest the flavor be destroyed
but just enough that the flavor is enhanced
We are to be salt and light
Sometimes we tend to want to overdo it:
To add too much, to say too much, to do too much
Remember that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith,
of everyone’s faith
Too salty and they want to get away,
just enough to keep them wanting more
When I have company, I salt the food,
but I always put the salt out so they can sprinkle it as they please
Think of that as His word, the things of God,
give people just enough and allow them to seek more of Him on their own
Jesus said nothing but what He heard the Father say
Jesus said If the salt has lost its savor wherewith shall it be salted?
I am a salt connoisseur
I purchase salt from all over the world and have for many years
I have tried salt from many places
I once ran out of salt and I found an old container in my cupboard
I hadn’t even used it in cooking for several years
When I tasted it, I thought of that scripture:
If the salt has lost its savor…
this salt had no flavor whatsoever
It was useless, tasteless, bland
It was not doing its job
We need to be available, listening, seeking the Lord
even while we are talking to people,
listening so we are not too much and not too little but just enough,
just enough to point them to God, to point them to seek our Savior
Our desire to bring them to the Lord is not enough
We cannot accomplish that in the flesh
The only One who can bring someone to the Father is Jesus Christ Himself
So, by trying, by over salting, we can ruin a good moment
This is the case whether we are talking to a Christian or non Christian
Let God help you to flavor the conversation
Be willing, be open, be obedient and allow the salt to sprinkle as He leads
He might lead you to say one thing that would be just right
Don’t underestimate His leading
And don’t over or under salt the moment, but let it be just right
