False Humility is the counterfeit of True Humility.
True Humility is before God.
False Humility can be before God or persons.
True Humility is bowing your heart before the Lord.
Remember, no person can see your heart,
it is not before humans you bow your heart,
you don’t tell anyone, you don’t show anyone how humble you are.
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them:
otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 6:1
Another stark example is the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Gatherer
And He spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves
that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,
God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off,
would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven,
but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luke 18:9-13
Learn from this parable: If you are trying to tell God or others
how wonderful you are, you are missing it.
That means false humility.
If we want our reward in Heaven, we keep our alms to the Lord here a secret,
and only God who already knows will know.
Sometimes others will notice, but we must not glory in that
or try to let them know, otherwise we lose our reward.
I’ve had that happen. Served me right.
I was trying to gain the reward of mortals.
Emptiness.
I should have been glorifying the Lord.
Then, when I would have received my reward, I already got my reward.
It was empty and bland. I felt bad minutes later,
even while I was getting my lousy reward, and I grieved about it for a while. Then, I forgot about it. This happened more than once I am sorry to say.
I think there will be many things we have long forgotten about that we will be rewarded for. He will not forget a thing that concerns us.
it was false humility when Jesus wanted to wash the disciples’ feet
and Peter said, ‘Lord, you shall never wash my feet!’
Peter saith unto Him, Thou shalt never wash my feet.
Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with Me. John 13:8
Pretending to be holy or righteous does not make one holy.
We are here to serve and honor Jesus and to lift Him up for all to see.
Standing up for His words for all to hear is true humility.
Standing up for others who are standing up for Him is true humility.
Seeking to see Him be glorified and not yourself, that is true humility.
Sometimes true humility is not quiet, but it always exalts the Lord
and not any human, including ourselves.
Standing up for Jesus is True Humility:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words
in this adulterous and sinful generation;
of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed,
when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. Mark 8:38
