Cherishing God’s Word

“And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.” Deuteronomy 5:1

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9

And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. Deuteronomy 6:25

This was all after the Lord gave Moses the 10 Commandments. Moses was making the Ark of the Covenant. And again, he said very similarly a 2nd time:

“Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;” Deuteronomy 11:18-22

The Word of God was not available to everyone in times of old. When it was read, it was a big deal. Not everyone had access to the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant.

Since Jesus is the Word, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” John 1:1 it makes sense that we should be considering His thoughts and precepts and commands all day long. This helps us to stay on track, to become one with Him and to learn to listen and obey His direction for the small and larger things He is doing in our lives.

Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. Jeremiah 1:12 or as the ERV says, “I watch over My word to perform it.”

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

This short writing of God’s word just barely touches the surface of what His word is and does and how Holy and powerful it is. He wants us to learn it so that it is a part of us. Memorize, think upon, consider His word as much as is possible in this world. It will become louder in your mind and your heart and will remind you how God thinks and give you clear answers about what we can do to please Him in this life here on earth.
