Choose This Day Whom Ye Will Serve

It is said that there are over 3,000 gods and goddesses
in the Hindu religion
That is the religion I was raised in
My mother loved the eastern philosophies
and was drawn to a swami and a sect in Vancouver BC
where my grandmother lived

I received the Lord Jesus as my savior at age 6
with a man my acquaintance called: The Bible Thumper

As I grew, I served and considered both religions
I believed that it was not important which way I worshiped
for all led to the same God
This is not true

Jesus saith unto him,
I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

The Lord had His hand on me
My mom did not stop me from going to Sunday School if I wanted to
She also thought all roads led to the same God

My brother went through a special Hindu ceremony
that was explained to me as was similar to being baptized
I refused
This happened before I had concretely
made my decision to follow Christ

My brother was very upset after his experience
and wanted it immediately reversed:
“Get it off me! I don’t want it on me!”
I heard him yell several times from his room
where the private ceremony took place

The swami our family knew from India told me to read
The Sermon on the Mount on one of his visits
He had things mixed up as well
He knew Mother Theresa personally and he considered her a friend

I teetered a little longer between the two

It wasn’t long after that that I went to a Christian prayer service
and I saw Jesus’ feet
I knew I was at the right throne
I saw a glimpse of God’s glory
My searching was over and my choice was made

The swami still came to visit my grandmother and my mom
He did not understand why I no longer wanted to partake
in his “holy” visits
They bothered me because he expected to be exalted
in a way similar to how Jesus was revered when He walked on the earth
and I did not consider the swami someone I wanted to worship
I had made my decision and did not want things mixed up
nor did I want to show him any sort of religious honor

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord,
choose you this day whom ye will serve;
whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood,
or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord Joshua 24:15
