But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law,
which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you,
to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all His ways,
and to keep His commandments, and to cleave unto Him,
and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Joshua 22:5
Cleave unto Him is an interesting clause
Its meaning is to be very close to Him, to hold on
Even more interesting is that the word cleave has two very different meanings, opposite meanings:
The other meaning is to cut or divide is something to consider
Maybe in this writing, the opposite meaning would work as well
since it could be cutting or dividing from the world,
or any other natural thing that interferes in our ability to put God first,
to seek Him for all our needs, to keep Him as our utmost source
The times are getting rougher,
more evil, it seems, each day is being unleashed on the earth
It’s a constant battle to find our rest in the Lord
which is why cleaving unto Him is so important
and cutting off those things in the world
that interfere in our walk with the Lord or distract us from seeking Him
Speaking of Barnabas, who could speak for all of us who have had such an experience with the Lord and received the joy of Salvation:
Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad,
and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart
they would cleave unto the Lord. Acts 11:23
Stay close to Jesus, especially as we are in The Last Days
Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding:
whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle,
lest they come near unto thee. Psalm 32:9
We need, more than ever, to be able to be close to the Lord,
to hear His voice, to find His purpose and direction for our lives,
and even for each situation that we need His wisdom
Cleaving unto Him will make that probable
Choose to hide under the shadow of His wings,
to dwell in the secret place of the Most High
You are safe there:
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
He shall cover thee with His feathers,
and under His wings shalt thou trust:
His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4
