How do you confirm God’s voice?
How do you know God is really speaking to you?
You hear a directive and you’re not sure if it’s some thought that popped into your head
or if it is Jesus telling you to do something.
The more you hear God’s voice, the more you recognize God’s voice.
What you hear has to line up with scripture.
If it’s a directive that is when you need a confirmation.
God gave His people confirmations throughout the bible.
It is wise to ask Him for confirmation and to wait until He makes it very clear to you that it is Him speaking.
The best way to learn is to look at scripture to see how He spoke to other people in The Bible.
He spoke first to Adam and Eve, but let’s look at what God said to Cain after he had just killed his brother.
And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother?
And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? Genesis 4:9
Lying to God? That won’t work.
God already knew the answer to His question. He was wanting Cain to face what he had done and explain himself.
So, when God talks to us, it is for a purpose. It is often to reveal the secrets of our hearts, to bring repentance, to make us face something we either hadn’t thought of or that we might be hiding.
The next one we’ll look at is Noah.
Noah walked with God. God told him to build the Ark. God shared with Noah His feelings and intentions.
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before Me;
for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark,
and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. Genesis 6:13-14
We know that the purpose of God talking to Noah was to save him and his family and the animals.
There is always a purpose when God talks to us.
Maybe it is to comfort us through His word, to correct us, to draw us closer to Him, to encourage us…
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 1 Corinthians 14:3
When God uses His prophets in the church to speak to all, these are other reasons.
If the future is told, like in The Book of Revelation or many other parts of the bible, that is because:
Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7
God likes to share what He is going to do with His servants the prophets,
and these in turn, share with God’s people as they are directed by Him.
Oftentimes, Jesus will share with many people the same message.
You can see that in the Old Testament when He warned people of what was coming in the last days,
such as in Daniel, Joel, Amos, Isaiah and many other books
that have large or small portions of what is coming in The End of Time.
Sometimes we would rather not hear God’s voice like in the case of Jonah.
He was not agreeable to the challenge at first.
God confirmed His word to Jonah and corrected his actions and then he obeyed.
Obeying God can be hard sometimes.
Battling the flesh against our spirit or the Holy Spirit.
Ask for wisdom.
You can be like Gideon and ask for God to confirm what He has asked you by using a fleece.
You can also recognize God’s work as He opens doors and shuts doors
and can lead by blessings that are not hard to find
and the absence of blessings in other areas He is leading us away from.
It is difficult to get to the point where when God speaks, you know it’s Him.
Keep reading His word as that can help in recognizing His heart and His desires for us mortals.
Even those who have walked with God for many years still need confirmations.
They will be there for you if it is God is talking to you. He will make His voice clear.
