I just heard a prophecy about creature comforts.
It said we will lose them.
He said we idolize them.
We will have very hard choices to make.
God is preparing us.
What is coming soon is going to be difficult.
The Israelites missed their creature comforts.
They said they wanted to go back to being slaves in Egypt rather than following God into the wilderness.
And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron:
and the whole congregation said unto them,
Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword,
that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
Numbers 14:2-3
There were further mentions of the Israelites’ desire to go back to their creature comforts in the Old Testament and continued through the New Testament. We all know the Lord was more than disappointed with the grumbling Israelites. It is important to know why.
What they did was more important than what was seen on the surface.
But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks,
and hearkened not to thy commandments,
And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them;
but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage:
but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness,
and forsookest them not. Nehemiah 9:16-17
God could have left them to fend for themselves.
He didn’t.
But the question remains, what was it they did that God was so disappointed in?
Jesus said it. Jesus answered it.
Remember Lot’s wife. Luke 17:32
Another metaphor Jesus gave was this:
And Jesus said unto him,
No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:52
The Israelites blamed God and did not want to really follow Him no matter what the cost.
God deemed them unworthy.
There were very few who were able to enter the promised land.
They clung to idolatry.
Let’s see what God said to Moses when He said in His ultimate terms of you failed Me:
Because ye trespassed against Me among the children of Israel at the waters of MeribahKadesh,
in the wilderness of Zin;
because ye sanctified Me not in the midst of the children of Israel. Deuteronomy 32:51
God has feelings. He also has judgments and reasons for His judgments.
Yet also I lifted up My hand unto them in the wilderness,
that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them,
flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Because they despised My judgments, and walked not in My statutes, but polluted My sabbaths:
for their heart went after their idols. Ezekiel 20:16
God doesn’t mince words. He says what He means and He means what He says.
For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
But with whom was He grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned,
whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:16-19
Because of their unbelief they couldn’t enter.
They witnessed the most profound miracles when they came out of Egypt.
Then they saw a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day.
They saw water gush out of a rock. But because of their unbelief, they could not enter.
God help us if we follow in their footsteps and desire our idolatry.
That time is coming we will be made to choose. Creature Comforts or the Lord God Almighty.
Deception is near, right at the door. Do not let it in.
