Disappointments

Disappointments are not easy
They can be otherwise known as failures
We are taught to succeed, to seek after the dream,
to value the norm
Success often means an accumulation of material possessions
The house, the car, the prestige
The ability to go on holiday

Our success in the world means little
God has other plans
He has detours sometimes
Or forks in the road, diversions and we often don’t get what we want
More often than not, if we do attain what we worked for,
it is a momentary feeling of bliss, then it goes away

The Bible tells us not to strive to be rich:
Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?
for riches certainly make themselves wings;
they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
Proverbs 23:4-5

The things on Earth we value are empty
Only what is done for Christ will last
Looking to the world and its idea of success will only lead to disappointments
It can be difficult to seek to do God’s will all the time
Pleasing God, although we will fail sometimes, is always a good aim

Lusting after the things of this world,
whether it be money or fame or prestige will all turn to dust
Loving the world is not going to help the Kingdom
Laying our desires and disappointments at the feet of Jesus as an offering
will bring us great riches in the Kingdom and in our relationship with Christ

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.
If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
