Oh no! Who wants to do that?
How do you do that?
It’s easy to do,
not as easy to recognize
Have you ever felt like you should say something
or do something
or give someone something?
And you didn’t want to but you knew it was the right thing to do?
Or when you have felt a quickening not to say something that might cause strife or something that might hurt someone’s feelings, but you said it anyway?
You might have quenched or grieved the Holy Spirit
Quench not the Spirit.
God’s Holy Spirit lives in us when we have allowed Him to take over our lives
He is not only operating in the church or when we are in a spiritual mode,
or only when we are with other believers,
We should try to remain in communion with His Holy Spirit all the time
We are exhorted to keep our lamps filled with oil,
to be in constant closeness with the Lord
Jesus did what He saw the Father do and said what He heard the Father say
Obedience is better than sacrifice
When Jesus was going to be delivered up to death
and the disciples fought against the soldiers,
that was a sample of quenching God’s will
or His leading or desire
He gives us wisdom and lets us know when He has something for us to do
in a certain situation,
If we refuse or dismiss that which He asked,
that is essentially what quenching or grieving the Holy Spirit is
Perhaps God is calling you to love someone who is unlovely,
not necessarily in looks, but maybe they are very difficult to love
Maybe He’s been working on your heart to forgive
a hurtful offense committed by another
Maybe He wants you to speak to someone about something
God has a way of making His will known to us:
Do not quench the Spirit
Do not grieve the Spirit of God
Let Him roam free in your life
Let Him have the preeminence
And aspire to make His Holy Spirit happy
