But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8
Jesus did nothing but what He saw the Father do
He said nothing but what He heard the Father say
It can be against the will of the Lord to push beyond how He is leading
The seven sons of Sciva are a good example:
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists,
took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits
the name of the Lord Jesus, saying,
We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew,
and chief of the priests, which did so.
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know;
but who are ye?
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them,
and overcame them, and prevailed against them,
so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:13-16
Many people think they have power, the power of God
While Jesus did say we would have power from on high,
that is never separate from Him,
We must always yield to Jesus and remember He is the source of any power
We are the branches, He is the vine
We have nothing without Jesus,
so to press in without His blessing, without His power is foolishness
Scriptural References:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself,
but what he seeth the Father do:
for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me,
he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem,
until ye be endued with power from on high.
