This world is enticing.
It has things that suit our fancy, pleasures that will draw us away from the Lord.
Things that gratify our flesh or our egos or that interest us.
When I was young at church. You couldn’t find me at the Youth Group events.
I was at prayer meetings, having hands laid on me participating in Bible Studies with older believers.
I had a difficult time trying to fit in and I never did. That is not a bad thing.
God calls us His peculiar people.
How important was The Bible to me?
I remember traveling with a friend who had to drive 4 hours there and 4 hours back in a day.
He had an appointment and I told him I’d go along with him to spend some time
since we hadn’t seen each other in a while, so we could catch up.
He told me to pick out a CD, so I did. The bible. I can listen to the bible for long periods of time.
Sometimes it is hard as you are trying to concentrate and not just have it as background noise.
We didn’t make it through the whole CD, he wanted to listen to a comedian.
I hate comedians. Every once in a while, there are some funny comedians who do stand-up comedy
and who do make me laugh, but usually, I just prefer real humor, humor that just happens in life.
The premeditated comedy doesn’t do much for me. Jokes are annoying to me.
I’m different than most people. I’ve always been odd.
This guy spent a lot of our friendship correcting me. His sister did the same thing.
I’d rather seek Jesus than do anything. I like talking about Him, thinking about Him,
remembering what He has done, what I have learned about in His word,
hearing what He has done in other people’s lives. Just letting Him be in the mix of whatever I’m doing.
If not, I get so I want to get away. I couldn’t get away
because I was stuck in the car with this friend for many hours.
The day went okay, but not how I would’ve liked.
We can be unequally yoked with believers.
You can have friends who do not have the same desire to seek the Lord but you can still be friends.
There may also come a time when you can no longer walk with that friend
Your interests can be very different. The Lord Jesus will provide your needs of friends.
He, of course, is the ultimate friend. He also knows we need people
and He will provide people when we need them.
He will also take them away if they hinder our walk with Him.
We might be closer to them sometimes. We might be separated from them for a variety of reasons.
If you are seeking the Lord with your whole heart,
you will desire to be around others who are also doing that
and whose affections are not filled with the things in the world.
If you think it’s better to have one foot in the world and one in the kingdom, you might be just fine with those who do not serve the Lord whole-heartedly.
I could go the rest of my life not hearing a comedian and never miss it.
I will not waste my time on movies unless they are based on true life.
I have been that way for years and years.
I am not attracted to anything that is just pure entertainment without substance for the Lord.
As I said, I am different.
That does not make me special.
It is how I was created. I will say, I think we were all created that way and we make choices.
I have chosen to follow Jesus with my whole heart. I seek Him and try to learn of Him throughout my day. I fail and I don’t do as well as I should.
I bring my deficiencies before Him.
I put my hand to the plough and I do not look back.
There is nothing behind me I want. I want Jesus.
We all need to take a look at our lives, make sure we’re hot, on fire for the Lord.
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:15-16
Get on track if you aren’t already. Put your life in His hands and don’t look back.
