You’ve heard others tell God what to do.
What they think is the best and how things should be.
You’ve heard prayers like commands, I am entitled to this!
You must do this because it says so in Your word!
Maybe you have even given God such a command.
It gets confusing.
So many teachings of the promises of God,
and we demand that God keep those promises,
so sure that they are meant for us.
That is faith, right?
Believing His word and commanding the promises to be?
Not exactly.
We cannot lose our humility.
The second we lose our humility and start ordering God around,
we cross over into another realm.
We have then taken His word and crafted it to belong to us.
God’s word is God, His word remains His.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss,
that ye may consume it upon your lusts. James 4:3
Think of a car in neutral.
That is our rightful position.
We can put the car in gear, make it turn to the right or left,
back it up, drive 100 miles an hour if we want.
If we see this as a metaphor to following Christ,
our constant position should be neutral, ready to do His will.
Jesus said the Holy Spirit will lead us.
We are to follow Jesus.
We are not to take the promises and make them be ours.
A constant state of humility, along with a good dose of the fear of the Lord,
will help us to be in our rightful position.
We cannot go forward with any strength or benefit for the Kingdom
without the Lord and His guidance or direction.
We do well to know His word and memorize His promises.
That way, when the Holy Spirit quickens you,
He will lead you and guide you and will recognize God’s will.
Some might think we should do nothing then, just wait for direction.
We are to be focused on Jesus always, obeying His every command,
listening to His leading, watching for danger, helping others as needs arise.
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto His disciples,
how that He must go unto Jerusalem,
and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes,
and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying,
Be it far from Thee, Lord: this shall not be unto Thee.
But He turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind Me, Satan:
thou art an offence unto Me:
for thou savourest not the things that be of God,
but those that be of men. Matthew 16:21-23
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father,
and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Matthew 26:53
When Peter cut off the ear of the Religious Leader
who was there to take Jesus into custody, Jesus healed his ear:
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it,
and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear.
The servant’s name was Malchus. John 18:10
But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.”
And He touched his ear and healed him. Luke 22:51
We have to also be careful to be mindful of the things of God
rather than the things of men or our preconceived notions.
What God may ask of us could rattle what we have always thought.
So, what we need to do is find out what is God’s will.
The flesh and its worldy goodness
can get in the way of understanding God’s will.
False teachings, false doctrines,
the way our own minds think things should be.
Jesus did not do anything unless He saw the father do it first.
Then answered Jesus and said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself,
but what He seeth the Father do: for what things soever He doeth,
these also doeth the Son likewise. John 5:19
We should do the same.
We pray in the Lord’s prayer:
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven.
His will. We have to learn His will. It is not always on the surface.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:29
Additional Scriptures:
And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence.
Colossians 1:18
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,
To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,
and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James 1:27
