Your own self-righteousness will get you nowhere.
God will not recognize it as righteousness.
It means nothing and it stands for nothing.
The righteousness of God is profitable to pursue.
Any righteousness not founded on the word of God is baseless.
Our righteousness are as filthy rags.
But we are all as an unclean thing,
and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
and we all do fade as a leaf;
and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6
Humility before the Lord is vital.
Our opinions mean nothing unless they line up with God’s will.
The Pharisees and Sadducees walked in self-righteousness.
The most profound parable Jesus told to exemplify self-righteousness
is of the Pharisee and the Tax Gatherer.
The Pharisee told God all the wonderful things he did on an ongoing basis:
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee,
that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers,
or even as this publican.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. Luke 18:11-12
And the publican, standing afar off,
would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven,
but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. Luke 18:13
This is how Jesus saw the two different attitudes:
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other:
for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased;
and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 18:14
This does and will happen also when persons will come before the Lord:
Not every one that saith unto Me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
The five foolish virgins in Matthew 25 were sure enough of themselves
that they did not think it was important enough
to pursue Jesus and His righteousness.
They did not make it.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came;
and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage:
and the door was shut. v 10
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. v 11
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. v 12
Give your humility to the Lord as a gift.
Bow before Him.
Honor Him.
Fear Him.
Self righteousness will fade away.
It is a form of pride and has no place in the Kingdom of God.
