I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart. Psalm 119:32
I was listening to the Book of Psalms this morning
I had never noticed this verse before
Enlarge my heart
The psalmist is asking for the Lord to enlarge his heart
as he learns, seeks and fills himself with God’s commandments
The word of God is always multi-faceted
What I understand or am taught by the Holy Spirit
may be different from what you are taught by the Holy Spirit
That does not mean either of us are wrong
Jesus’ word is alive
I can read something one day or one year
and the next time I read the same passage or scripture,
I see or understand it deeper or differently
and it usually compliments the first way I read it or understood it
Such is the amazingness of God Almighty
The secrets and hidden treasures of His word are limitless
So, back to the term enlarge my heart
Some versions say enlarge my understanding
How do we understand?
With our heart and our mind,
but the human logic does not seem to help us to understand the word,
instead, it can hinder the understanding of the word, devalue the meaning
Let us be careful to treat God’s word greater than gems and precious stones
If we don’t get it or if the purpose or meaning has not been revealed yet to us, let us to continue to search,
and to try to find the meaning and honor of God’s word with reverence
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation
in the knowledge of Him:
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
that ye may know what is the hope of His calling,
and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, Ephesians 1:17-19
I found a few more scriptures that have a similar phrase:
O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. 2 Cor 6:11
This seems to mean Paul is sharing his whole heart with them
Then thou shalt see, and flow together,
and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged;
because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee,
the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. Isaiah 60:5
This verse is complex
The Lord is speaking to many people, but of course,
He is speaking to each of us who reflect the Lord in our life
Take a look at Matthew Poole’s Commentary, particularly verse 5
There are some amazing realizations in his writings
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much,
and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 1 Kings 4:29
Let us enlarge our hearts, seek the hidden treasure,
and to share what has been revealed to us
as we will be blessed to receive more
Such a fulfilling relationship we can have with Jesus if our focus remains pure
Seek Him not for any reward, but simply to know Him,
which isn’t simple at all
The thought of learning more about Him does not sound that grand,
that is, until you learn more of Him and see who He is
Knowing Him will make our walk with Him richer and more fulfilling
and that is what He desires for each of us:
For us to enlarge our hearts to Him
