The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10 KJV
We know the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom
If we want wisdom, that is where we need to start
What is it exactly?
One way to think of it is, to give Him first place, awesome reverence,
realizing that He is Holy, that there is no one else
that we need to please
Even those who know Jesus, do not necessarily fear Him as they should
This is not to call them to task, it is just part of what is happening now
and to be aware of things can be helpful in coping with certain things
that happen to us or that are said to us
The poor way we get treated from time to time
by people in the kingdom and out of the kingdom
Being aware of the importance of fearing God is helpful in our walk
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:
but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 KJV
Fearing God is a reverent fear
This is realizing that He is a jealous God and He doesn’t accept less
Don’t try to give Him leftovers
He wants our first fruits of all that we have, of all that we are
We have to choose Him and accept Him and His word
He doesn’t want lukewarm people
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,
I will spue thee out of My mouth. Revelation 3:16 KJV
Where is your fear of God?
When you imagine yourself before His throne, how do you see yourself?
Ask Him to teach you what He means by the fear of the Lord
He makes it easy, that can come by asking Him:
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not;
and it shall be given him. James 1:5 KJV
Without the fear of God, we may love things in the world
or serve ourselves, our own lusts and do things the way we see fit
He’s a jealous God and He does not want us wandering
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord,
whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14 KJV
Job 28:28 NKJV — And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”
Fear is not only the beginning it is your friend along the entire journey to Spiritual Maturity.
A deepening of a Fear in the LORD is directly proportional to an Abiding Spirit in His presence which is the only means of Growth.
Very beautiful thoughts, Kevin. Yes, I know there is much more to explore, I have only touched the surface. Hidden riches in Christ are the most precious treasures we can find. Thank you for sharing your understanding and what the Lord has shown you.
