Jesus can do that
Give us rest in the midst of the storm
When our enemies have compassed us about,
when it feels like you are surrounded by wickedness,
Jesus is with us, guarding us, helping us make it through
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Paul learned to be content in every situation
He shows us by example that no matter what comes our way,
Jesus is there by our side and being content in every situation is a form of rest
We know that, but it’s good to remind ourselves of the promises in His word
His promises help us to rest in Him
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. 10:17
And He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
Exodus 33:14
We can find the scriptures about how God will care for us
and give us rest in the middle of storms,
but let us consider a story or two from the bible where
God did give the people rest in their situations that were tumultuous:
I have been reading Job lately
He had a lot of havoc in his life, much destruction, a lot of loss
It was evident he started to rest in the midst of his trials
But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me,
I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10
Job realized he was being tried and he had a moment of rest,
knowing God was still with him
Look for those moments
God is always giving us rest in the midst of our trials where we can find Him
Find those moments, they will carry you through
What about when Daniel was in the lions’ den?
The King’s men set Daniel up and knew he prayed three times a day
They wanted to catch him and arrest him and throw him in the lions’ den,
so they did
And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel; and the king spoke and said to Daniel,
“O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God,
whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?”
Then said Daniel unto the king, “O king, live for ever!
My God hath sent His angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths,
that they have not hurt me,
inasmuch as before Him innocency was found in me; and also before thee,
O king, have I done no hurt.”
Then was the king exceeding glad for him,
and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den.
So Daniel was taken up out of the den,
and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
Daniel 6:20-23
Study the bible, see where He has given others rest
in their difficult circumstances
Learn the promises of God that you can draw on His word when you’re down
Let us trust God in each and every situation we may encounter,
to know His rest
His rest might include turmoil in the world, but we can still find His rest
Additional Scriptures:
Not that I speak in respect to want,
for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound.
Everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry,
both to abound and to suffer need.
I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:11-13
