In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,
till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken:
for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Genesis 3:19
How about that for a humbling thought?
Humans will return to the ground, that’s where we came from
We are flesh
We are earthen vessels
The flesh is temporary
The spirit is eternal, one way or another
Unless and until we pass from death to life,
we are less than the least in the kingdom of Heaven
Verily I say unto you,
Among them that are born of women
there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:
notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven
is greater than he. Matthew 11:11
John the Baptist was flesh and blood
and until he passed from death to life,
he was a mere mortal and less than the least in kingdom of Heaven
That’s a sobering thought
We mere mortals like to think of ourselves more highly than that
We are nothing without God,
the only way we can attain any significance in the spiritual
is by yielding ourselves to Jesus, completely
We’re just branches
We can’t spiritually survive apart from the Vine, Jesus
I am the vine, ye are the branches:
He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
Sometimes He takes our world away
Some or all of the things that we have been trusting in, clinging to,
in order to let us see our insignificance,
and our dependence on Him,
as well as our ugly fleshly desires that separate us from Him
Sometimes this can be people, or things or positions,
things we hang our hats on, things that give us prestige in this world
Our boastings, our trophies, our idols
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth.
Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou?
or thy work, He hath no hands? Isaiah 45:9
When a potter is working with clay on the wheel,
sometimes he has to start all over again, which means,
pounding down the clay so that it can be formed anew
Jesus is our Maker, He knows just what we need
to become the wonderful vessels He has created us to be,
the vessels that will serve Him without a thought
Will we ever make it?
I don’t suppose we will while we are here on Earth
