Call unto Me, and I will answer thee,
and show thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3
Knowing about Jesus, learning about Him
is not quite the same as knowing Him
Church learnings from pastors and teachers
and other people in the church can help us know about Jesus,
but we have to seek Him on our own to know Him personally
We can be taught about His word, some of His characteristics,
what He did or didn’t do when He walked on the Earth
We can read about what God’s character is like
in the Old and New Testaments,
but to develop that relationship so we really know Him,
that comes about by getting to know Him in a personal way
No excellent Bible teacher, Bible scholar, no book,
nor can any great sermon develop your relationship with Him
That is between you and God Himself
Saying the sinners prayer is good
Believing what the Bible says is helpful,
Ye believe in God, you do well, even the demons in Hell believe and tremble
but for you to get to know who Jesus is, to get to know Him intimately,
that has to be done with you and Jesus and Jesus and you
Think of any relationship you have
and how that relationship became meaningful to you
Spending time with that person,
Getting to know how they think, their characteristics,
their actions and reactions
We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
He has to become meaningful to us,
important enough for us to spend time with Him,
to realize He is worth our time, our attention
and for us to realize that He cares about us and wants to spend time with us
One of the biggest deceptions Satan puts forth is that God is not concerned with us and He has a lot more important things to do than bother with us
If that is so, why does the bible say:
God so loved the world
and that He knows our every thought?
For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Our God is able and available to help us with every need:
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy
and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Sometimes, depending on our circumstances,
we may need Jesus to help us certain times much more than others
He is there however much we need Him, for:
wisdom, council, love, nurture, He is our everything
Do not be deceived that you bother God
He doesn’t want our empty promises or mechanical services
He wants us, who we are, what we can offer Him, to give Him our best, whatever that means for each of us
He knows what our best is and so do we
Give Him your best, always, in every circumstance
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do:
for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them:
for your Father knoweth
what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him. Matthew 6:7-8
Since God knows our thoughts already,
we know He is interested in them and He is interested in us:
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Jesus is not too busy for us to learn more about Him,
even for Him to teach us more about Himself
He desires that we seek Him:
O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down,
and art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue,
but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Psalm 139:1-4
