God is always trying to teach us. Whatever He is teaching us is what we need to know. Seeking first the treasure of God’s kingdom, even the treasure of God’s heart. Maybe you’ll find some treasure in these passages.
1 Samuel A King is Chosen
King Saul disobeyed God.
Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,
It repenteth Me that I have set up Saul to be king:
for he is turned back from following Me,
and hath not performed My commandments.
And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night. 1 Samuel 15:10-11
Samuel was close to the Lord. He was able to understand some of His grief.
When God speaks, His voice is like many waters. There is always much content in what He says. His words are clear, but there is meaning behind them as well.
Samuel heard the meaning behind God’s words. He knew why God was grieved and how Saul had disobeyed the Lord and how and why that had disappointed God. God spent extra time speaking to Samuel about Saul’s disobedience although, it is not recorded what He said. God was able to share with Samuel how God felt since Saul had disobeyed the Lord.
Saul did some of what God asked, but changed the course from full obedience and considered his own righteousness to be sufficient.
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord,
He hath also rejected thee from being king. 1 Samuel 15:22-23
Samuel did not go to see Saul anymore after that conversation. God had repented that He made Saul King and Samuel mourned the fact that Saul refused to repent and insisted on doing his own righteousness.
