Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17
God does not give us evil gifts
His will is perfect and righteous and true
He does not change
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
Jesus is the same Jesus that was there when the world began
He has not changed, nor will He change
All through the Old Testament and all through the New, He is solid, constant
For I am the Lord, I change not;
therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 2:6
God does not change
That is one of His characteristics
He can be relied on
If you learn that about Jesus, it will be helpful in your relationship with Him
When you hear and understand His word, in particular, about Who He is,
you can count on it
Some may say He changed from the Old and the New Testaments
Not so
His mercy and grace remain as they are a part of Him
He executes vengeance
His Judgments are righteous and true
His methods sometimes change, but He does not change
He still has mercy on those who call upon Him in truth
What about the Ten Commandments?
What about Jonah?
He changed His mind, not exactly
The Ten Commandments are still valid
They are exemplified in the Two Greatest Commandments:
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus is sweeter than the God in the Old Testament?
If you will notice, Jesus is the same God in the Old and the New
He was merciful then when the people of Nineveh cried out to Him
And there are many other examples of His compassion
In the New Testament, He struck people dead on the spot,
just like in the Old Testament
Then Peter said unto her,
How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?
behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door,
and shall carry thee out. Acts 5:9
The concern of not spending time in the Old Testament to learn about God
is that we can miss the big picture
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in My name,
He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
The same Holy Spirit still teaches us and leads us into all truth
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth:
for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear,
that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. John 16:13
There is no other God beside Him
We can trust Him without wavering because God is constant and solid
