Have you ever noticed children of famous people,
not so much the older ones,
but the young ones who are still somewhat innocent,
those who haven’t been touched by fame and fortune?
Those little kids love their dads, not because they are famous,
but they just love them because they know them in a deeper way,
a more intimate way than everyone else.
You can even sometimes see adoration in their eyes for their fathers.
When we have an intimate relationship with Jesus, He is our focus,
our first love, He is the One who is there for us, who protects us,
who guides us, who provides for us.
The more we know Him, the more we love Him.
There were some of Jesus’ followers who had a true relationship with Him.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary.
They just wanted to be with Him, to spend time with Him.
That is a beautiful thought, isn’t it?
To just be with Jesus because you want to?
The priests in the Old Testament were to minister unto the Lord.
And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.
And the word of the Lord was precious in those days;
there was no open vision. 1 Samuel 3:1
Have you ever felt like God created circumstances in your life
so He could spend time with you? He does that.
He allows things to happen so that we will focus on Him
and rekindle our first love, to realize His importance,
His true place in our lives.
To remind us that we are His children and He desires
a meaningful relationship with each of us,
not just a superficial, automated one.
If we decide to serve the Lord in our lives, if we give our life to Him
and we follow after idols, no matter who or what they may be,
we might just find ourselves being reminded of
this 1st Commandment of the 10 Commandments.
Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness
of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth:
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.
For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, Exodus 20:3-5
In the New Testament, we are also given 2 Commandments, the 1st being:
And Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind,
and with all thy strength;’ this is the first commandment. Mark 12:29-30
Spend time with Jesus, like you do with all your important relationships.
Nurture your relationship with God. Let it grow, feed it.
Sit in His presence and know that He is God, but that He is also your Father.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3
What a Blessing… And so true! The things that you write, really reflect that you are in a deep relationship with God, through Jesus yourself. I find that they motivate me to follow Christ, even as you, and what you’ve written inspires to pursue Him.
Thank you, dear Brother, that is the greatest compliment because that is my motive to write, to remind people that Jesus wants to spend time with us in a meaningful way. That truly is the treasure of the Kingdom, Jesus Himself.
When those try to make Him see what they did for Him at the end, on the last day, and that is why He should let them in, they missed the point. Jesus is the most beautiful part of following Him, of serving Him. He is the point.
