Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord,
that take counsel, but not of me;
and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit,
that they may add sin to sin: Isaiah 30:1
God wants us to seek His counsel
Not just of the humans who we think know God,
humans who may be well-versed in the word,
humans who may seem to have all the answers,
so much so that we can be in awe at what they know
God wants us to seek Him
To hear from Him ourselves
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,
that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;
and it shall be given him. James 1:5
God is able to communicate with each of us
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: John 10:27
I have met many Christians who do not look to the Lord for their answers
They trust in man’s doctrine or even worldly teaching to solve problems
It does not occur to them to seek the Lord, to ask God for wisdom, counsel
We do have the word and it is good to know it and live it
The Holy Spirit is there to lead us and guide us into all truth
He also opens up His word to us so that we can have better understanding
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom:
I am understanding; I have strength. Proverbs 8:14
Asking others for answers when God is right there is not the best
nor is it wise to lean on our own understanding
And the men took of their victuals,
and asked not counsel at the mouth of the Lord. Joshua 9:14
Some Christians are so entangled with their own knowledge,
their education, their own wisdom and experience
that they do not seek the Lord for answers
They might not be correct in what they believe
The difference before and after the Lord has taught you something
is astounding and majestic
Try it if you haven’t already,
and be in the habit of seeking the Lord’s advice
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses:
but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
Additional Scriptures:
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come,
He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself;
but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come.
John 16:13
