And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children,
My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him:
For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons;
for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence:
shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit,
that we might be partakers of His holiness.
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous:
nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby. Hebrews 12:5-1H
If God loves you, He’s going to teach you.
It’s a way of delivering us from evil.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, a line in The Lord’s Prayer.
As parents, we know discipline helps kids develop into better individuals.
We know that from when we were a kid, some or hopefully most of our discipline was helpful.
Without it, we would be different people.
Discipline helps shape and mold us.
That doesn’t always mean when something bad happens to us, we are being disciplined.
God can still teach us in any circumstance, but bad things happen to good people all the time.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Having trials and sorrows are part of living in this world.
We could look at the Israelites in the wilderness.
Was what God did with them a form of discipline? I think so.
God disciplines us creatively, whatever will help us get what we need to understand.
Maybe some experiences you have had come to mind
that you knew God was trying to teach you something, maybe to discipline you?
If it happens, don’t be offended. Correction is a form of love from God to help us not to stray from Him.
If you have made peace with God through His Son, Jesus Christ,
you are His son or His daughter and He loves you and cares for you.
