Greed

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1 John 2:16

Greed
Coveting
The love of money
The lust of the flesh, the world
Seems they all are in the same category

Thou shalt not covet:
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife,
nor his manservant,
nor his maidservant,
nor his ox,
nor his ass,
nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s
. Exodus 20:17

Wishing you had something someone else has
Whether it’s things or characteristics or talents or position
It all stems from greed
And greed causes us to feel unfulfilled
God gives to each man measures of faith and gifts
As good stewards of the manifold grace of God,
each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.
If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God.
If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides,
so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen
. 1 Peter 4:10-11

If we desire what other people have,
then, we are neglecting what God has given us
We need to cultivate those gifts and talents He has given us
so we may then use them for His glory,
We do not need to get caught up in what we don’t have,
but search for what we already have that are ours to begin with
Desiring what others have will only lead to sin

For I would that all men were even as I myself.
But every man hath his proper gift of God,
one after this manner, and another after that
. 1 Corinthians 7:7

Each person is encouraged to consider
his or her own treasures the Lord has given
and not to be concerned with what other persons have
Sometimes that person you notice may have material or fleshly things
due to their lusts of the world
Do you wish for that? God forbid

But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.
Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation
and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires
that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith
and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:8-10

Cain was angry as God regarded what Abel had offered,
but not what Cain had offered
Instead of Cain finding what he could have done to please God,
he killed Abel out of rebellion:
Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain,
and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward,
and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Jude 1:11

We are no longer living for ourselves,
and for us to desire what God has not given us,
will not benefit anyone, including ourselves

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned,
in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content
. Philippians 4:11
He said, I have learned
Being content did not come naturally
Humbling yourself before the Lord is not always easy
Let us learn to be content
