There really is only one way to guard yourself from deception, that is to love the truth.
To love the truth means to regard God’s word higher than anyone else’s ideas.
Since God’s word is God, and Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life (from John 14:6)
We know His word is Truth.
in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. John 1:1
Sanctify them through thy truth: Thy word is truth. John 17:17
We must allow ourselves to be sanctified by the Truth.
That means to be cleansed from deception. To accept the truth above our own thoughts.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
God’s ways are higher and when we acknowledge that, He will expose the deception.
If we value the truth, if we love the truth as the Bible admonishes us to, we will be searching for the truth.
We will be following the truth, we will recognize the truth.
Cast down those lofty thoughts that make humans think they are smarter than God.
It truly takes humility to do that. To admit your opinions are faulty.
The battle is mainly in our minds:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
