His Glorious Appearing

The night was dark
The day was dim
The Lord was not easy to find
Though He was close to some,
He was far from most
Very little work could be accomplished

Smoke filled the earth
It was hard to breathe
Water was a rare commodity
Going from here to there to satisfy that innate need to survive,
not knowing what was next
or how God would provide for those who still trusted in Him

As Jesus led His people through the thickets and the flaming ground,
His strength was how they endured

As people run and to and fro, trying to escape the sword,
those who rely on You will remain in perfect peace
Men look to their own devices to shield them from the storms
You, oh Lord, remain a refuge for those who look to You

No matter how the earth and its elements change the surroundings,
Your people can trust in You
as You are the Maker of Heaven and Earth
You remain steadfast and true for You are Truth

When all these things take place and we have no visual reprieve,
except to know it has been prophesied in Your Holy Book long ago
You warned us in Your mercy of things to come so we may prepare,
our faith in You will carry us through until we see You in the clouds
and so shall we ever be with You, Lord

Scriptural References:

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Immediately after the tribulation of those days
shall the sun be darkened,
and the moon shall not give her light,
and the stars shall fall from heaven,
and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:
and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn,
and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven
with power and great glory.
Matthew 24:29-30

Behold, he cometh with clouds;
and every eye shall see him,
and they also which pierced him:
and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.
Even so, Amen.
Revelation 1:7
