I will send My fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come,
and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
And I will send hornets before thee,
which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. Exodus 23:27-28
I ran into someone today who betrayed me greatly.
I greeted her warmly and chatted with her as I really do forgive her,
but before today, the Lord has warned me not to let my guard down.
We were standing there talking for a minute or two and then a hornet came.
He was buzzing around her hands and her purse and her grocery bag.
I hate those things. I noticed it and I couldn’t pay attention to anything she was saying.
He was really going after her. I don’t know if he finally stung her or not but he was targeting her.
I’m not saying God did or did not bring that hornet,
but it made me think of the scriptures about how God uses the hornets to drive out enemies.
And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you,
even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. Joshua 24:12
This scripture, God makes it clear, it is not what they have done, not your sword neither with your bow,
but He sent the hornet and drave them out before you.
God cares about us. He loves us and He works on our behalf.
I’ll probably never know, but I think He did bring that aggressive little guy.
Hornets? I don’t like them. I’ve been stung by them and they live on my property.
I know better than to try to remove their nests during the daytime.
I also can imagine if they want to attack you,
people don’t stand a chance unless they have a safe place to go to get away from them.
The next day I had to deal with bunches of them which had been caught in the traps.
Some were dead, some were not.
I have a system I use so I do not get stung, but I still hate the job.
They are horrible little creatures.
God uses them for His purposes and they have their place in the life cycle.
It’s really not up to us who God chooses to use in our lives.
There are times for all purposes under the sun.
God knows everyone’s heart. He knows if someone has ill feelings or intent toward us.
He also knows if they will receive the gospel or if they won’t.
We must continue to love and be kind.
And, if He removes them for whatever reason, we would do well to accept it.
