I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:5-7
So, How big is God?
Well, He is bigger than you are
Bigger than any of us
He’s bigger than the tallest mountain,
Bigger than the deepest part of the ocean
Bigger than the Earth
Bigger than the Heavens
Bigger than all the Galaxies
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psalm 139:7-10
He could squash us if He wanted to
When I was a new Christian,
His power was the most fascinating part of His personality to me
I was always in the Old Testament
reading about the she bears (2 Kings 2:24)
or the earth opening up
and swallowing the people that hated Him (Numbers 16:32)
I loved seeing His judgment
Judgment is not popular to most
To me, it makes me fear Him more and since the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, well, it’s not a bad thing (Proverbs 9:10)
Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest
For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. Isaiah 66:1-2
People don’t like to think about Judgment much
I like to think about it
First, it’s a very selfish reason
I don’t want to get before Him on Judgment Day,
which we will all have to face,
and have Him say, you didn’t forgive this person
or You did this and didn’t make this situation right with Me,
and most of all, I want to hear the words:
Well Done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of thy Master
The second reason,
which sort of goes with the first
is that I want my life to reflect what He has done for me
and not to waste my time here on earth,
not to let any talent go unused
or any mission I have been given be undone by the time I leave
I’m not even sure that’s all possible
I’ve wasted much time
Just let time go by
Not reading the word enough
or praying enough or helping enough
While we are supposed to judge ourselves,
we can be very harsh judges
He is gracious and forgiving
We are supposed to rest from our labors at times,
for example
He does change us and renew us as we allow,
so getting caught up in woulda-shoulda-coulda is pointless
albeit, easy to do
Jesus is very specific when He corrects us,
when He shows us something we need to take care of
The reason is always to bring us closer to Him,
to allow Him to cleanse our sin,
whatever it may be and to do what is right,
no matter how many times we ask
So back to the question: How big is God?
For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else. Isaiah 45:18
Big enough to make you:
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
Big enough to know what you’re going to say:
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Psalm 139:4
Big enough to see your heart:
I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17:10
Big enough to care about you:
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30
Big enough to work through you:
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Bigger that our mortal minds can imagine and He has a Love for us just as Big.
Scriptural References:
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. Proverbs 21:2
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matthew 25:21
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27
Very good Loral. It reads as though its inspired. I too am counterbalanced by the reality of judgement that many neglect. But i like that you followed it up with about coming before the Father and being as blameless as possible. At least thats exactly what i tell muself too.. that when im in front of Him and must give account, that i would be able to say “did i not forgive, Father?” “Did i not give, Father?” Etc. And thank you for keeping it scripturally focused.
Yes, no hidden sin. Keeping it real with God.
My God is AWESOME!!!
