How do we get Mercy?
Give it.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7
Demonstrate it.
For if ye forgive men their trespasses,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15
Love it.
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;
and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly,
and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Show it.
For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy.
Mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:13 WEB
Share it.
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Luke 6:36
Share the mercy the Lord has given to us with others. It’s not ours anyway.
We are just letting the Lord express His mercy toward others through us.
Humble yourself before the giver of Mercy.
Because thine heart was tender,
and thou didst humble thyself before God,
when thou heardest His words against this place,
and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before Me,
and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before Me;
I have even heard thee also, saith the Lord. 2 Chronicles 34:27
We won’t be able to demand it.
We won’t be able to show our works to gain it.
We won’t be able to go back on what we have already done.
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down,
and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.
For with the same measure that ye mete withal
it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
The Bible is filled with examples of God’s mercy.
There are examples of mercy by God, like the people of Nineveh,
who after Jonah’s preaching responded in humility to God and repented,
as well as by persons who prayed and petitioned for others, like Esther.
There were those who spared others’ lives, like King David did with Saul,
and, those who helped others, like the Good Samaritan.
We can’t forget the father of the prodigal son
who greeted his son out of sheer joy,
just like the Bible says, Jesus loves the sheep who was lost and was found.
God has spent much time trying to teach us to be merciful to others,
like He is.
If we choose not to, we are risking a harsh judgment,
at least the kind we have been dishing out.
For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy.
Mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:13
