How to Fall from God’s Grace

Any of us can fall from God’s grace, if we so choose.
The best way to understand how that can happen is to search the bible
to see some of the characters who have fallen from God’s grace.
Adam and Eve were the first two humans to make that list,
but let’s start with Lucifer and see how he fell from God’s grace.

Isaiah 14: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! v12
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north v13
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. v14
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. v15
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms
; v16
Lucifer’s pride and desire to be like God, to be worshiped as God,
led him to his fall from God’s grace.

And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Luke 10:18

What happens in the Heavens is manifest in the Earth
and the spiritual is impossible to understand with the natural mind.
Seek the Lord to reveal the truth to you
so you can appreciate what He is trying to teach us in this subject.
Jesus’ word is alive!
He will continue to teach us about it if we are searching.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field
which the Lord God had made.
And he said unto the woman,
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden.
Genesis 3:1
We know what happened from there.
Both Adam and Eve fell from God’s grace.
That happened from disobedience to God and letting Satan twist God’s word.
God is God. He knew that was going to happen
and He intervened before they had the chance to eat from the Tree of Life, which would have enabled them to live forever in their fallen state.

The next guy to fall was Cain:
And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother?
And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
And He said, What hast thou done?
the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
Genesis 4:9-11
God retained some grace to Cain.
Cain was Enoch’s father and Enoch was very treasured in God’s eyes.

Let’s look at the New Testament…
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife,
sold a possession, And kept back part of the price,

his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part,
and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart
to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own?
and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?
why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart?
thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost:
and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
And the young men arose, wound him up,
and carried him out, and buried him
. Acts 5:1-6
They both fell from God’s grace for lying to God.
How does one lie to God? He knows everything already.
I suspect had they been honest and said,
“We find it hard to give this much money.”
God would have given them strength
or had the others help them somehow and been gracious unto them.

I can be very selfish and I sought the Lord about this story
because I told Him I was selfish, which He already knew.
They died because of hiding their sin, in other words, lying to God.
Confess your faults one to another,
and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much
. James 5:16

There are several incidents if you search the scriptures,
you will see where Jesus gives grace.
If you watch how He responds to people,
that is how we should respond to others.
It is also how He will respond to us in similar circumstances.
God never changes. He is very consistent.
He’s looking for humility and fear of Him.

There is one last place we will look at an example of falling from God’s grace in The Book of Revelation:
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent,
and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly,
and will remove thy candlestick out of his place,
except thou repent
. Revelation 2:5
Don’t ever assume. Check with God.

Here is the summation and the answer:
But He giveth more grace.
Wherefore He saith,

God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble
. James 4:6
