You won’t get God’s mercy by trying, or efforts,
or completed tasks,
or by doing the right thing
Not by reading His word or going to church or singing in the choir
or following all the commandments that are written in the Bible
Mercy is given to those the Lord chooses to give it to,
those who have not earned it or even tried to gain it
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Romans 9:15
If we look at those whom the Lord has had mercy on,
I think our question will be answered
God had mercy on Noah
God had mercy on the Israelites when they were slaves in the land of Egypt
God had mercy on Lot
And the Jews who Haman wished to destroy in the Book of Esther
And mercy on the people of Nineveh who repented when Jonah preached
God had mercy on David numerous times
And the widow who had nothing left to eat during a famine
He sent Elijah to fill her vessels with oil
God had mercy on a woman’s son
when He used Elisha to raise him from the dead 2 Kings 4
God had mercy on many who called out to Him in the Old Testament
Jesus had mercy on the lady with the issue of blood,
the one that touched His garment
He had mercy on the crowds of people who were hungry
He had mercy on the adulteress that was about to be stoned
He also had mercy on those who crucified Him
Jesus offers His mercy to many
He would like us to do the same
It is apparent that all those who received mercy were humble,
were hopeful, but not demanding
They were asking for God’s mercy and that is what they received
They might not have even been expecting His mercy in some instances
They did not earn it or gain it by anything they did
He hath shown thee, O man, what is good:
and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8
We are also to be merciful, to love mercy
We will reap what we sow
Our love cannot grow cold
With the same measure we judge, we shall be judged
Go easy on those who are not wonderful people
Give much grace and mercy to those who don’t deserve it
None of us deserve it
Let us give to others what the Lord has given us
As you read this passage,
remind yourself that this is not just about giving tangible items to others:
Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over,
shall men give into your bosom.
For with the same measure that ye mete
withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
Additional Scriptures:
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Matthew 7:2
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Matthew 24:12
Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Galatians 6:7
