I am the vine,
ye are the branches:
He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
Let’s divide this 5th verse in John Chapter 15 into 5 parts
and put all the verses from the chapter
into the applicable section:
I am the vine Part I
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. v 1
As the Father hath loved me,
so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. v 9
If ye keep my commandments,
ye shall abide in my love;
even as I have kept my Father’s commandments,
and abide in his love. v 10
He that hateth me hateth my Father also. v 23
If I had not done among them
the works which none other man did,
they had not had sin:
but now have they both seen and hated
both me and my Father. v 24
But this cometh to pass,
that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law,
They hated me without a cause. v 25
Jesus is our Lord and our God
Jesus is the One we are a part of
He nurtures us
He is our source
He feeds us, clothes us, supplies all our needs
I am the bread of life. John 6:48
Jesus said unto her,
I am the resurrection,
and the life:
he that believeth in me,
though he were dead,
yet shall he live John 11:25
Ye are the branches Part II
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit,
he purgeth it,
that it may bring forth more fruit. v 2
Now ye are clean through the word
which I have spoken unto you. v 3
These things I command you,
that ye love one another. v 17
If ye were of the world,
the world would love his own:
but because ye are not of the world,
but I have chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth you. v 19
Remember the word that I said unto you,
The servant is not greater than his lord.
If they have persecuted me,
they will also persecute you;
if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. v 20
But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake,
because they know not him that sent me. v 21
We draw strength from Him
We get our nutrients from Him
We are a part of Him
Our life comes from Him:
Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
He that abides in Me and I in him Part III
Abide in me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
except it abide in the vine; no more can ye,
except ye abide in me. v 4
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you. v 7
These things have I spoken unto you,
that my joy might remain in you,
and that your joy might be full. v 11
Ye are my friends,
if ye do whatsoever I command you. v 14
If the world hate you,
ye know that it hated me before it hated you. v 18
If I had not come and spoken unto them,
they had not had sin:
but now they have no cloke for their sin. v 22
If the flow of eternal life is happening
That is, if the branch is attached properly to the vine,
with no breaks or damage in the flow,
then that branch will be healthy
and we will be representing Christ in our lives
The same brings forth much fruit Part IV
Herein is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit;
so shall ye be my disciples. v 8
This is my commandment,
That ye love one another,
as I have loved you. v 12
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends. v 13
Ye have not chosen me,
but I have chosen you,
and ordained you,
that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should remain:
that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name,
he may give it you. v 16
And ye also shall bear witness,
because ye have been with me from the beginning. v 27
If the branch is properly attached,
gaining life from the vine,
then the branch will bear fruit
This bundle of scriptures show us that our fruit is
demonstrating His love,
demonstrating to others that He is real to us
and bearing witness of Jesus
For without me you can do nothing Part V
If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch,
and is withered;
and men gather them,
and cast them into the fire,
and they are burned. v 6
Henceforth I call you not servants;
for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth:
but I have called you friends;
for all things that I have heard of my Father
I have made known unto you. v 15
But when the Comforter is come,
whom I will send unto you from the Father,
even the Spirit of truth,
which proceedeth from the Father,
he shall testify of me v 26
He is talking about the kingdom
when He says apart from Me, you can do nothing
We can do things without Jesus,
He is specifically talking about things
done for the kingdom of God,
things that matter for all eternity
Even if we take His word and spread it,
His word will never come back void, however,
without the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit,
our fruit might not remain
Great post sister! I appreciate reading your breakdowns of the scriptures. I commend your work and well structured examinations.
This post reminded me of Deuteronomy 32 and we were studying some of Deuteronomy 32 in the Greek Septuagint today.
When you read Deuteronomy 32 in the Septuagint and compare to Psalms 82… Some interesting connections are made that aren’t so easy to see in the Masoretic translations (for me at least).
There is a counterfeit vine/rock mentioned in that chapter that came to mind while reading your post today.
Deuteronomy 32:31-32
For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies concede. 32 But their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter.
I notice some interesting synchronicities within the body of Christ lately. Be blessed and please continue in your work to help bring on the kingdom.
You are a great servant to our LORD and I appreciate your writings.
I’ll be interested to learn of that counterfeit vine. I’ve been studying so much lately and trying to really grasp how people, who think they are serving the Lord will hear, Depart from Me, I never knew you! I have done several writings on having not been serving the right Jesus. Many know all about Jesus, but they don’t know Jesus.
I have been studying the gospels and have been fascinated about Jesus’ relationship with His disciples. They knew Him and He knew them, except for Judas Iscariot. Jesus was patient with them, had high expectations and taught them fully of Himself and His ways.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness in commenting. It’s always nice to have feedback and most importantly, that maybe a spark was in your spirit to draw nearer to our Lord Jesus Christ.
