I knew a Pastor. His name was Tom.
He was a good shepherd.
He watched over God’s flock.
He noticed the downtrodden.
This pastor was a good example of Jesus.
He was gentle and gracious but was not afraid to speak the truth.
Pastor Tom shared the gospel and cared about each soul he came into contact with.
He cared for the unlovely, those who others might ignore.
He used his words to heal, not harm.
He spoke the truth in love.
Pastor Tom encouraged others to seek the Lord, to find their calling.
He was not proud or boastful.
He was not impressed with himself, but was impressed with Jesus.
Everyone felt special around him.
He loved all and lifted them up.
He never showed favoritism. He cared and people knew he cared.
His kindness and mercy extended to all.
Tom saw an angel once.
He offered help to the angel.
He didn’t know it was an angel until after the angel left.
He was not concerned if someone chose to go to another church.
He was an earthly shepherd who held people loosely.
He was not possessive. He knew the people belonged to the Lord, not to him.
He was, however, saddened when people decided to reject the Lord.
I never once felt I offended him, although I must have.
He let things go and didn’t talk about them again.
He knew who the Lord Jesus wanted him to be and he worked toward that goal.
Pastor Tom was an example of who Jesus would be if he were guarding a flock for His Father.
Tom took that job seriously.
Each person who knew Tom knew he was genuine in his servitude to the Lord.
He never forgot where he came from.
He never forgot who his Savior was.
He never forgot what his mission was.
He was constantly mindful of the dying world.
He knew God’s heart toward people and Pastor Tom shared God’s heart with people.
Until the moment he breathed his last breath,
his compassion resounded and reverberated to all who knew him.
