I Like God

Do I love God?
Of course, goes without saying
But I think like is extremely important
I don’t like everyone
The ones I do like are special
I’m glad God didn’t command us to like people
like He did us to love people
I wouldn’t be able to do that
Although the Holy Spirit is the one
who loves the difficult people through us,
so He would’ve made a way
There’s a reason He didn’t command us to like others
It was for people like me

I like Jesus
I like His personality
I like who He is
What He’s about,
What He stands for
The attributes of His character
Kindness
Forgiveness
and all the other fruits of the Spirit
and good things we know about
Anger at evil
Protection of those who call Him Lord

I like spending time with Him
Basking in His presence
Listening to Him
Thinking about Him
Honoring Him
Pleasing Him
Trying hard to understand Him
Following Him
I just like Him
Being around Him
Which really is the most important thing about liking someone
Do you want to spend time with them?

Think of your best friends, those you really like
They get your jokes and you theirs
They understand you and you them
They have similar interests
You can trust them with your heart
They can trust you with theirs
They forgive you, often instantly
They want to spend time with you
They help you if you need it
You don’t have to worry about being misunderstood
Much of the relationship is a two-way street
The bottom line is, you like them and they like you, it works

Back to the subject of God being likable
I like the way God puts people in their place
He has a way with words
And He’s always right so you don’t have to wonder
who was right in this or that instance
I like that He cares about people
He answers those who reach out to Him
and who respond to His call
I like His judgment
His retribution
His hatred of evil

I believe Jesus wants us all to know Him in a close way
The words, ‘I never knew you’ are not words any of us want to hear
Our relationship with Christ is of utmost importance
It is the most important relationship we will ever have
It is not enough to know all about Him,
we must know Him
Learn about Who He really is and why He thinks the way He does
I believe He wants us all to know Him in an intimate way
where we understand Him and accept Him for Who He is
If we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us

I find it fascinating reading about
His relationships with persons in the bible
Moses was his friend
They had a lot of back and forth, like real friends would
even some give and take
Noah knew God intimately
and Abraham,
and Jeremiah
I am observant of Jesus’ relationship with the disciples
John was the one whom Jesus loved,
as he called himself
Jesus was good not to show favoritism
which reminds me, that’s another thing I like about Him,
Jesus is no respecter of persons
The disciples did not even know who would betray Him
until The Last Supper when Jesus gave Judas the sop

The mysteries of our Lord are endless and wonderful
the more I know Him, the more I like Him
and I have a feeling this will go on throughout all eternity
