If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye;
for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified. 1 Peter 4:14
Remember when the apostles rejoiced because they were counted worthy to suffer for Christ’s sake?
How many of us think that way? A bunch of whiners most of us are. We would do well to take advice from the Apostles of old who considered serving the Lord an honor.
The religious leaders threw the apostles in jail and there were they beaten.
An angel came and opened the doors of the prison so they could leave.
The Spirit of the Lord was heavily upon them because they counted all of these happenings blessings.
And they departed from the presence of the council,
rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. Acts 5:41
That is what Jesus told us to do also.
Rejoice and be glad for so persecuted the prophets who were before thee.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew 5:11-12
While we might not do things for later rewards, the Lord has made it clear to us that we will be rewarded. That is part of our faith, realizing that we are to preach the gospel against adversity at times,
and to be obedient whatever Jesus asks of us, even if it includes hardships.
He will give us the strength we need.
