Note for study: The Word of God is powerful and full bodied.
These are some thoughts on James Chapter 1.
The hope for all of us is that we hear from the Lord as we read
and integrate what we have learned into our lives.
This is by no means every explanation possible.
The word of God is alive and this is just what the Lord exposed to me.
Keep digging for more, the riches and richness of God’s treasure
is way beyond one person or any certain teaching.
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. v 1
Interesting that he mentions the 12 tribes of Israel, that are not in one place.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; v 2
Count it all joy?
How do you do that?
How can you be in temptation or going through trials and be joyful?
Knowing that God is with you, that He is even in them with you
and will help you be victorious.
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. v 3
We are after patience?
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. v 4
We’re after the perfection of God’s patience which makes us perfect in Him
and entire, wanting nothing. When this happens, the lusts of the flesh are not our focus.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. v 5
This should be a constant prayer of ours in most every situation,
unless you feel like you have already
been endowed with wisdom for a given situation.
This should be second nature, seeking the truth
and the fear of God that should permeate our very beings
and our every thought.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea
driven with the wind and tossed. v 6
If God says something: Let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally.
That means, if you ask, it will be given in abundance.
What He says is truth. God does not lie.
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. v 7
If you don’t believe His word and that He is good for His word,
asking Him might be futile. We each need to decide on this.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. v 8
If we are wishy washy, if we go back and forth on what He has said,
we are not trusting Him and that unbelief will spill over into all areas of life.
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: v 9
Let the brother who is not wealthy in the riches of this world
or maybe in intelligence or in circumstances, might be a poor personality.
It could be all sorts of things.
Let that person who is without the wealth of this world or the skills, etc.
rejoice that he is exalted in the Kingdom and the riches of Christ.
But the rich, in that he is made low:
because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. v 10
Those who trust in the riches of this present world might be
missing the meaning of life:
To love and to serve and to follow Jesus, the Christ, the soon coming King, the Messiah, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat,
but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth,
and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth:
so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. v 11
Anything or anyone who has trusted in the flesh or in this world’s habitations and prosperity will miss the value of the Kingdom.
Joy – Not necessarily “feeling” joyful but practicing endurance. Refusing to panic because of having faith in the Lord.
Trials – God is aware of my trials; I am not alone in trials; The right response to trials is to reap the benefits and be conformed to the image of Christ.
Makes me so glad to hear your thoughts and what the Lord has shown you. We all only see in part. I have the second part of that chapter coming later today. Thanks for sharing so others can see your responses.
