Luke 9 describes how Jesus sent out His disciples:
Then he called his twelve disciples together,
and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves,
nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city,
shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel,
and healing every where. verses 1-6
There are a few things to gain from this passage for our lives today:
He called His disciples together and gave them
power over the enemy
and power to heal diseases
Told them to preach the gospel
He gave them power to heal
Take no thought for your needs,
The Lord will provide
Enter the lives of the people you meet along the way, witness to them
and if they accept you and My message I have given you,
let My peace remain with them, but if not,
then shake the dust of your feet off as a testimony against them.
Jesus said in another scripture
that if the works that were done in you
had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented.
Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida!
for if the mighty works, which were done in you,
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven,
shalt be brought down to hell:
for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee,
had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Matthew 11:21-23
These are the same people who ended up crucifying Jesus.
They hated His message and they refused Him
They chose to release a criminal and let Jesus be crucified.
People who don’t listen to and believe His words
are not going to fare well on the day of Judgment.
The work the disciples were given for our Lord is a good reminder for us.
I believe we will see works like those done in the Book of Acts.
We, if we are willing, will be a part of that.
When the latter rain begins to fall,
it will be so clear that the Lord is near.
They will know it and will either draw near unto Jesus or reject Him.
We should realize this and not take it personally
but remember that He is working, some will respond and others will not.
We must keep on going, spreading the gospel and praying to heal the sick.
As The End Times are here and the Harvest is almost fully ripe,
we remember how He taught the disciples to completely rely upon Him,
in every situation, in every instance, and we must also remember
how He always came through for them and will always come through for us.
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great,
but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest,
that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Luke 10:2
