Noah called out
He tried to warn the people
He was not listened to
They did not repent of their deeds and their wickedness before the Lord
As you know, they all perished
They perished for their refusal to serve God
They were blind and poor and naked, yet they did not seek the Lord
neither did they desire righteousness
But as the days of Noe were,
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
For as in the days that were before the flood
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
And knew not until the flood came,
and took them all away;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24:37-39
Jesus told us that we would see similar attitudes and sinfulness
before He returns.
The passages of scripture that were written
about the sinfulness of humans before the flood
are similar to the way we see many humans behaving now.
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts,
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?
for since the fathers fell asleep,
all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
For this they willingly are ignorant of,
that by the word of God the heavens were of old,
and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2 Peter 3:3-6
Here is a part of God’s heart that is revealed in scripture.
I try to pay special attention to the scriptures where God reveals His heart,
how He feels about things, how and why He makes decisions.
If you look at things from God’s perspective, it is very sad.
Our Creator, who made heaven and earth was so disappointed,
so devastated, so much so, that He wished He had not made man:
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart
was only evil continually.
And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth,
and it grieved him at his heart.
And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created
from the face of the earth; both man, and beast,
and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air;
for it repenteth me that I have made them.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:5-8
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
The one bright spot.
At least God had one faithful servant and friend.
I want to be a faithful follower of Jesus,
not one that He wished He hadn’t made.
The wickedness of the human race is great
If it weren’t for God’s great patience and mercy,
the earth would have been destroyed already.
We know from the prophetic books in the bible
that the earth will again be destroyed, this time by fire
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;
in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise,
and the elements shall melt with fervent heat,
the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10
Peter tells us what we are to do to please the Lord just after that:
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved,
what manner of persons ought ye to be
in all holy conversation and godliness, v 11
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God,
wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved,
and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? v 12
Nevertheless we, according to his promise,
look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. v 13
I very much look forward to His return, to meet our Lord Jesus face to face:
Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:17
And so shall we ever be with the Lord
