Have you ever had an event or been trying to accomplish something
and you get the person or persons that just stand around and watch?
It can be annoying. Sometimes these people get in your way.
Not only are they not helping, but their presence is causing hindrance of the goal.
I was thinking about that this morning.
We hear some people say, ‘Oh, you are not saved by works.’
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
While that is true, helping God and wanting to help God is pleasing to Him.
Obedience is what He asks and then a whole host of things we can do,
which are all written in His word from front to back and all the way in between.
Abel chose the right offering.
Balaam only blessed God’s people when he was enticed to curse them.
Noah built the Ark.
David stood against the uncircumscribed Philistine.
Elijah believed and prayed for a dead child and that child came to life.
Queen Esther proclaimed a fast for all the Jews’ lives were to be taken,
she was courageous and went before the King to plea for them,
and God miraculously turned things around.
Jonah spoke the words he was terrified to speak.
John the Baptist prepared the way for our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.
The disciples gave up their earthly lives and followed Jesus,
then most gave up their lives in the flesh as martyrs.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee:
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. Acts 3:6
Stephen loved his enemies as they stoned him to death for the Lord’s sake.
Paul preached the gospel and ended up whipped and jailed as they tried to stop him to no avail.
These people were not just standing around.
They were helping to bring about God’s Kingdom,
so that many may be saved both in their present time and as their efforts were conveyed to the reader,
the works they did continued to reverberate through time
and are still doing the work of the Spirit to proclaim God is God of all the Earth.
Just standing around, not helping God when there is work to be done is not where it’s at.
To please the Lord, read and listen to His word and let His Spirit lead you.
To get caught up in works or no works is not helping anything.
By concentrating on what you are doing or not doing is not going to help anything.
Just do what the Holy Spirit prompts you to do and God will be pleased.
