I have a very old friend who hates the gospel.
She hates a lot of things, actually.
She thinks Christians are deceived and I could go on and on about her dislikes.
I have wondered if it was time to cut off the relationship.
The Lord has told me to love her.
I have done my best, with His love.
Sometimes her hate-filled thoughts and words ooze out of her pores
and she spreads meanness like poison.
Yesterday, I resisted her.
I was filled to the brim by listening to her hatred filling our conversation.
She doesn’t want to hear how we are supposed to love our enemies
because she is not interested in following God’s laws.
She has said she likes Jesus, but Jesus said a lot of things she does not like.
There are no answers to her concerns,
her method is just to get away from the people that bother her.
She is a never-ending abyss of hatred and strife.
I think yesterday a chasm between us was created.
I cannot take anymore of her foul hatred.
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?
and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
There are times when the Lord told His disciples,
if they don’t listen, shake the dust off your feet:
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words,
when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Matthew 10:14-15
Sometimes we don’t know when to give up.
What are our motives?
Some people are habits to us, is God in the relationship?
Sometimes we do not know, we just have to do our best to walk with Jesus.
These people can waste our time.
They can also wear us out.
They also can be festered with demonic influences
depending on who or what they serve.
It might not be over, but it seems to be time to step back and listen to God.
There are people who are open to the gospel.
It seems my time and energy would be better spent on those who have an openness to Jesus.
This lady has negativity to the gospel and just negativity in general.
Darkness and Light cannot fellowship.
It would be best not to engage with anyone who might infringe on
my ultimate goal, which is to grow in my relationship with Jesus.
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?
Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
2 Corinthians 6:15 NIV
Good questions.
