Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
We’re supposed to count our blessings
Look for the good things in our life
Focus on the beauty and the lovely and the good and kind
It is easy to go amiss
The Lord taught me long ago:
Look for the blessings because that is where He is
There will always be troubles to focus on
those can take their toll on our psyche
Focusing on the negative can drag you down and leave you in the dust
There are always good things going on,
blessings that He is sending our way
He sends people and words of encouragement
and friends or neighbors or even strangers to reflect His love
and caring toward us
He sends us love just when we need it
I was broke one time and had $4 to put in my gas tank. The gas station attendant added another $6. The guy couldn’t have had much himself. This was not my regular gas station. Those guys might’ve helped me, but this guy, I had never seen before. We had no relationship whatsoever.
Whether they are monetary or otherwise,
look for the blessings that are given by God as often as we need them
Down in the dumps?
Try, as hard as it can be, to find them
I assure you they are there,
even when we don’t deserve them
God’s blessings are there
Choose to be a blessing to God and for God
He will give you opportunities that you don’t expect
Being a blessing to His creation,
doing things in His name can also be a blessing to you, the giver
Sowing good seeds is always a good practice
Hoarding things or talents is not
Use your talents or skills or bounty to bless others
and look for the lovely things God has given you or even someone else,
like being glad that the nice gas station man helped me
My dog died last summer
He was the best friend I have ever had, second to Jesus
He was faithful and loving and definitely caring
He knew all my secrets and kept them safe
A neighbor I had never met acquired a dog as her friend’s sister had died
The dog had no place to go
I asked her if I could walk her new dog, Mac,
who greeted me over the fence as I walked by
It’s an every day occurrence now
It blesses me because I get more exercise than I would normally get
and I have a walking buddy
It blesses the neighbor lady so she can have the afternoon free
and it blesses Mac because he’s got a special venture every day
Help others as you can
you’ll be better for it
and try to focus on the blessings that you have had,
that you may have forgotten
and look for blessings in your life like treasures
Give to others as you are able
a kind word
a prayer
a hug
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
