Lord, Don’t You Care that We are Perishing?

Sometimes it feels like God doesn’t care.

When Jesus and the disciples were on the boat
and things became very tumultuous
so that the boat even filled with water,
the disciples were afraid.
They found Jesus sleeping and awakened Him,
Lord, don’t you care that we are perishing?

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship,
so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship,
asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him,
Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,
Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:37-39

And he said unto them,
Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? v40
How is it that ye have no faith?
Huh? What?
The boat was filled with water,
it was a dangerous situation with what they knew.
Let’s look back at what He first said in verse 35:
Let us pass over unto the other side.

He didn’t say, let’s go out into the sea
and get our boat filled with water and sink,
that wasn’t what He said.
He said, let us pass by to the other side.
Because Jesus said that, that was what was going to happen,
even if the boat did fill with water.
And in verse 40, He said unto them:
Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

I can’t even count how many times I have felt like the disciples felt.
You’d think I would’ve learned by now that when Jesus tells me something, He’s going to do it.
I still have to waken Him and wonder why He doesn’t care about me.
Sounds silly as I’m writing this.
Where is my faith?
All I can do is my best to try to remember
that He has never let me down before, so He’s not going to start now.
I seem to always make it to the other side, no matter what the circumstances.

And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another,
What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? v 41

Yes, who is this who can work all things together for our good? Romans 8:28
The One who can calm the wind and the sea?
Who is this who can take any situation and fix it?
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah
He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Revelation 19:6

we have nothing to fear. Psalm 91
