Ministering to the Lord

Have you ever thought of serving the Father by spending time with Him?

And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.
And the word of the Lord was precious in those days;
there was no open vision.
1 Samuel 3:1
Samuel was the child Hanna prayed for
and she promised to offer him to the Lord as soon as he was weaned.
Samuel was cared for by Eli who was a priest.

And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts,
if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid,
and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid,
but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child,
then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life,
and there shall no rasor come upon his head
. 1 Samuel 1:11

Samuel did serve the Lord.
He was the prophet who anointed David to be King

Ministering unto the Lord.

But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you,
let him be your minister;
And whosoever will be chief among you,
let him be your servant
. Matthew 20:26-27

By ministering to others as the Holy Spirit leads, we are in fact,
ministering unto the Lord.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.
Acts 13:2

Ministering to the Lord is so important.

While it is different than sitting at His feet as did Mary,
it is another way of serving our Lord.

Mary ministered unto the Lord Jesus.

Martha wasn’t happy about it.

Now it came to pass, as they went, that He entered into a certain village:
and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet,
and heard His word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to Him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone?
bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her,
Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part,
which shall not be taken away from her
. Luke 10:38-42

Martha was prioritizing fleshly things while Jesus was there.
The food wasn’t going to cook itself.
Martha was right on that.
And she was being a servant of sorts.
Mary’s priorities were right.
She valued Jesus and realized
being in His presence was the best way to spend her time.
The food could come after.
Maybe Jesus might’ve even helped get things done.
Who knows, but putting Him first is the message.

Not sure Martha ever understood.
