My Peace I Give to Thee

I think my favorite story in the Bible about Jesus’ peace is
when the disciples were in the boat and Jesus fell asleep
I’ve been there numerous times
I’m not sure I’ve learned this lesson yet, to the fullest

They woke Him up as the storm was raging, the wind was howling,
the waters tumultuous and said,
Lord, don’t you care that we’re perishing? Help us!
Jesus wasn’t worried
Sleeping away like nothing was wrong
The wind and the seas obeyed Him

Then when He walked on the water
and beckoned Peter to walk on the water, too
Peter almost sank:
And he said, Come.
And when Peter was come down out of the ship,
he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink,
he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand,
and caught him, and said unto him,
O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? Matthew 14:29-31

God called Peter to walk on the water
surely, He would sustain him
But Peter lost his peace
Where was his peace?
Peter’s peace was right there in front of him
The Prince of Peace

We do the same thing
These things I have spoken unto you,
that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

What about Martha?
She didn’t have peace.
And Jesus answered and said unto her,
Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful:
and Mary hath chosen that good part,
which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42

Peter didn’t have peace when he was asked if he knew Jesus
while Jesus was being crucified
On the other hand, Stephen had peace
when he was being stoned to death

Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth,
give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

The world wants the situation that is frightening to cease
Gods peace shows us to cling to Him in the midst of turmoil
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil for thou art with me,
thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me Psalm 23:4
A shepherd’s rod and staff were used to guide the sheep,
to correct the sheep and to separate them from problems
as well as to attack the enemy if need be
He will provide what is needed to give us peace

How can we get to the place where we are walking in Jesus’ peace?
No easy answer on that
The scriptures are filled with demonstrations
of His love and power
and His interventions
I’d say, to pray and ask God
to remind you of times when He has come through for you,
to reveal His word to you
where He has come through for His people
and to practice committing fears to Him
and doing your best to trust Him
Pray for yourself and others who don’t find peace so easily
to be able to find it,
sometimes we can be strong in one area
and completely lacking in another

And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Mark 9:24

Scriptural References:

And when they had sent away the multitude,
they took him even as he was in the ship.
And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind,
and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship,
asleep on a pillow:
and they awake him, and say unto him,
Master, carest thou not that we perish
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,
Peace, be still.
And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them,
Why are ye so fearful?
how is it that ye have no faith?
And they feared exceedingly,
and said one to another,
What manner of man is this,
that even the wind and the sea obey him? Mark 4:35-41

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus,
which said unto him,
Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
And he went out, and wept bitterly. Matthew 26:75

But he, being full of the Holy Ghost,
looked up stedfastly into heaven,
and saw the glory of God,
and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, Acts 7:55
