But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in my name,
He shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you,
My peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:26-27
My peace I give unto thee, not as the world gives, give I unto thee
The world gives peace
It is different from the peace the Lord gives us
Everything has to be in its place in the world
We can rest from our toils once all of our tasks are done
or all of our ducks are in a row
or when we have enough of this or that not to worry anymore
Jesus’ peace is now, in the moment, perhaps in the midst of turmoil
Remember when the disciples were afraid in the midst of the sea?
And they woke up Jesus, Lord don’t you care about us?
Jesus wasn’t sleeping out of slackness
He knew they were safe
He knew the waves weren’t going to swallow them up
Just like when he was standing before Pilate
and Pilate was baffled because Jesus wouldn’t answer him
Do you not know that I have power to release you and power to let you go?Jesus finally answered Pilate
You would have no power at all
if it had not been given to you from on high
In other words, God has to okay what happens to us
Like it or not, He allows difficult circumstances to occur
They seem to cause us to be closer to Him,
to seek His wisdom and strength
and learn that He is there for us in our troubled times
The plans that the Lord has for us are usually much different
than the plans we have for ourselves
That can make us feel powerless, which, I suppose, might be the point,
for us to feel powerless and learn to completely rely on Him
That is where we will find our peace, in Jesus,
knowing He is at the helm,
He’s running the show,
He’s got it figured out
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received,
and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly,
that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again;
wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned,
in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound:
every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full
and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:9-13
Scriptural References:
And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them,
Let us pass over unto the other side.
And when they had sent away the multitude,
they took him even as he was in the ship.
And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind,
and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow:
and they awake him, and say unto him,
Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?
how is it that ye have no faith?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another,
What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Mark 4:35-41
And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus,
Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me?
knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee,
and have power to release thee?
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me,
except it were given thee from above:
therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
John 19:10-11
