one little, stinky sin
Do you hate it like God hates it?
How then does it cling to you?
Continuing to harass you?
Continuing to find its way into your heart? Into your mind?
That sin is a breach in your armour.
That little sin is a break in your walls that should be fortified from the enemy.
Cleanse and purge us from secret sins, Lord Jesus, the ones we ignore,
the ones we think are just minimal, that can’t cause us any harm.
The spots and blemishes and wrinkles.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1
“the sin which doth so easily beset us”
In other words, sin is around while we are trying to make it to the kingdom,
always in our faces, always compelling us to follow it,
to look at it to think upon it, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh.
We are running a race
You can’t win the race if you are constantly stopping along the way to dilly dally. You have to keep on.
This is where our affections should lay:
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
Remembering that the goodness of God leads to repentance:
Or despisest thou the riches of His goodness
and forbearance and longsuffering;
not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Romans 2:4
God is there for us.
He is near to help us if we ask Him and if we choose Him above the sin.
